ebm-papst Automotive & Drives is offering its high quality small motors configured with Zeitlauf ‘Performax’ planetary gearboxes. The resulting combination offers high performance, compact solutions with quiet operation, high reliability and long life. Together, the combination provides ‘commercially sensible’ solutions for OEMs and system integrators who need a reliable motor/gearbox combination.

The most important application areas for the ebm-papst/Zeitlauf combination are light industrial for packaging and handling, automatic doors/barriers, and conveyors, for medical applications in bed adjustment and physiotherapy machines, and in the automotive field for use in mobility access ramps. Factors driving the demand for this type of product are high performance, compact modular packaging, quiet reliable operation, and long service life.

As an optimised product, Performax gearboxes feature a modular construction and their high power density packs more performance into a smaller package. Compared to competing units, Performax gearboxes offer more torque output in an equivalent or many cases a more compact solution. The gearboxes are available with reduction ratios from 3.18:1 to 3468:1 with only three gear stages, thus offering a wide choice of ratios again in a very compact package.

The gearboxes feature a direct cut motor shaft with three teeth. This means that ebm-papst can use one-stage gearheads - offering improved efficiency and a shorter physical length – in applications where competitors are forced to design two-stage gearheads.
