Small motor incorporates drive electronics for use in very compact applications

Release date: March 2005

With its integrated drive electronics, ebm-papst Automotive & Drives’ ECI 42.40 brushless dc motor will fit into spaces that most other motors simply cannot be installed due to their larger size and/or because they have separate drive electronics. The result is a motor/drive combo that helps designers reduce the size and complexity of a wide range of products.

The ECI 42.40 will find favour in applications such as package and handling, small conveyors, pump applications, but can be used in virtually any ‘light’ application where high performance and small size are prerequisite to the design. As an example, the 50W unit is comparable in size with ebm-papst A & D‘s own 25W BCI motor that utilises the same frame.

Only requiring one connection for both power and control, the motor is simple to connect and ready to go, requiring no sophisticated software or set up. A simple analogue speed command is all that is required to control the speed of the motor. A PWM speed controlled version is also available.

Operating from a nominal voltage of 24V DC (18 to 28V permissible) the motor draws a current of 3A. Its speed is 6000 min -1 and its torque figure is 80mNm. The motor is protected to IP40 and can operate in ambient temperature range of 0 to +40 degrees C.

Competitively priced, the ECI 42.40 utilises the latest advances in electronic components and PCB design technology to achieve its very small frame size of 108 x 42 mm. It weighs just 0.7kg.
