Cooling fan withstands noxious fumes to run for over 13 years

Leading manufacturer of equipment cooling fans and solutions Papst, has recently been advised by an end user of a Papst fan that has run continuously in an inhospitable environment for over 13 years!

Roger Plant of Plant Engineering in Somerset explained that the Papst fan - a standard type 3314, (24V DC) unit - was installed into the battery compartment of his motor home in late 1989, and except for a very occasional few seconds, has never been switched off since.

The fan is used to remove noxious battery charging fumes from the battery compartment. As a function of that process, air is drawn in through an inlet that is situated near the motor home floor, inadvertently drawing in lots of dust. Despite operating for so long under these difficult conditions, the fan is still performing perfectly well and to quote Peter, "It is just as quiet now as the day that I fitted it".

This latest report highlighting the longevity of Papst fans follows another recent one from Papst's HQ in the Black Forest where several type 6148 fans have been running for over twenty years.

Modern electronics rely heavily on forced air cooling and not surprisingly fan manufacturers claim their products are highly reliability for today's increasingly' demanding applications. Given these recent examples, few are better placed than Papst to demonstrate this.

By definition a cooling fan is designed to remove excessive heat. Fan failure occurs due to the effects of high temperatures degrading the bearing lubricant over time combined with the mechanical stress of continuous operation in hostile thermal environments.

Both the battery compartment fan and the fans fitted at Papst's HQ are testament to the company's experience and reputation for high quality cooling fans. Indeed every Papst fan is the result of 50 years of leading edge design and development allied to rigorous quality standards that in turn have provided an unrivalled record of satisfying customers' needs.
