Invaluable cooling solutions reference book is to be serialised on web site
Cooling solutions specialist Papst has released an updated version of its popular cooling technology reference book. Currently being serialised one chapter at a time on Papst's web site papstplc.com, the reference book provides a wealth of information and data for anyone involved with the design of cooling systems for electronic equipment and other applications requiring high performance fans.
Reflecting the challenges, design considerations and choices facing engineers, the book contains no less than twelve sections. Generic in style, the hardback book covers topics from straightforward technical subjects such as fan types, characteristic curves and operating points to more practical areas such as ventilation concepts, and noise evaluation and measurement.
Mindful of the ever-increasing applications for cooling fans, the book has sections covering processor cooling and automotive applications. For those interested in the installation and maintenance of fans, the book includes sections on reliability, bearing systems, lubrication and electrical safety.
Author Dr Siegfried Harmsen studied aeronautical engineering at the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin. In 1962 he did his doctorate in the aerodynamics of the vertical take-off aircraft. From 1977 to 2000 he was head of the development department at Papst-Motoren in St. Georgen, Germany. Now retired, he works for Papst in an advisory capacity and is also a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin.
