Compact radial blower provides high pressure cooling in tight spaces
Ideal for use in portable or automotive applications, ebm-papst Automotive & Drives' diminutive RER101 radial blower provides a high level of airflow against high backpressure. Measuring just 101dia x 52mm and weighing just 305gms, the blower will find favour with designers keen to capitalise on its excellent size/airflow ratio in space saving applications.
The RER101 is aimed at small, high-powered electronics systems where air needs to be directed at high pressure to provide maximum possible cooling. Factors driving the demand for this type of fan are the high temperatures levels prevalent in systems being produced by high power. The situation is compounded by the ever-reducing space around components in compact systems. The RER101 requires a small inlet area that maintains a minimal requirement for space on the outside of customers' equipment.
A powerful maximum airflow of 190m3/h, alternatively 111CFM is provided by the blower and its noise figure is 7.4bels. A rotational speed of 6100RPM is provided, and an operating temperature range of –20 to +70°C is accommodated. The unit consumes 23W and its running current is 1910mA.
Exhibiting versatility, the 12V blower can be fitted with a TTL tacho output signal or used with an analogue speed control input signal. For durability and reliability, a life L10 figure of 60,000hrs at 40°C is returned. The unit's blocked rotor and reverse polarity protection are standard, and further add to the reliability of the blower and the host equipment.
The RER101 blower from ebm-papst employs an electronically commutated external rotor motor. The unit's motor electronics are completely integrated into the fan hub for compactness and protection, and EMI is kept to a minimum. A very high quality ball bearing system and high specification balancing are employed in the construction of the blower.
The unit is expected to be designed into customers' systems. Due to its specialised design, the blower cannot be added as a retrofit, as is often the case with an axial fan. The host equipment needs to include the venturi to facilitate the pressure increase between inlet and outlet. Alternatively if desired, the air can be allowed to spray out in a reduced pressure 360° curtain around the blower.
The RER101 is a compact, high quality blower for use in special applications. As a small volume product it offers higher quality than the limited range of similar competitors products, at a competitive price. Particularly, the blower offers a long trouble free life with a low total cost of ownership - echoing ebm-papst's 'fit it and forget it' ethos. The RER101 meets approvals requirements as laid down by UL, CSA and VDE.
